registration ten icons from the Monastery of Saint Macarius the Great

The Supreme Council of Antiquities’ Board of Directors has approved to register ten icons from the Monastery of Saint Macarius the Great in Imbaba at Giza Governorate on the Islamic and Coptic Antiquities List. Dr. Mohamed Abdellatif, Assistant of the minister of antiquities and Head of Islamic and Coptic Sector explains that the church was registered on Egypt’s Antiquities List for Islamic and Coptic Antiquities in 1998 for its distinguished historical and archaeological value.  He mentioned that the Board of Directors has also approved to register 12  icons displayed at the Hanging Church, the Churches of Abu Sefein, St. Barbara, St. Sergius, in Old Cairo and the Monastery of Marmina. Dr. Diaa Zahran, Director General of the Documentation of Islamic and Coptic Archeology Department said that the icons show a variety of scenes, including the icon depicting Queen Helena and her son King Constantine after discovering the Holy Cross, an icon of Saint Damien, and a third showing Jesus between the Archangels.
